Carole King Biography and Discography

Carole King is a Grammy Award-winning American songwriter and singer. Beautiful Carole King began her career in 1960s when she and her husband Gerry Goffin wrote about 2 dozen hit singles for multiple artists. Many of those singles became standards. She continued to write for other artists. Her commercial success as a performer didn’t come to picture until she sang her own songs featuring herself on piano in a series of concerts and albums. Her debut album, Writer, was a commercial flop. She contributed her best to the album Tapestry. The album topped the US charts for 15 weeks. In 2000, Carole King was named the most successful female song writer of 1955-99 by Joel Whitburn, a Billboard music researcher as she wrote about 118 pop singles on the US Billboard Hot 100 and 61 pop singles on the UK charts. In 2005 she was found the most successful female songwriter of 1952-2005 on the UK music charts by musical historian Stuart Devoy.
