Daft Punk is a French music duo featuring musicians Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo. During the house movement in France in the late 1990s the duo reached significant popularity and continued its success for the years following, mixing the elements of house with synthpop. In the French house scene Draft punk songs are considered most essential. The group was handled by Pedro Winter, the Ed Banger Records head, from 1996 to 2008. At first the group members were influenced by groups including The Rolling Stones and The Beach Boys.

Daft Punk Discovery

Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter met each other while attending the Lycee Carnot, a Paris’ secondary school in 1987. They became good friends and recorded some demo tracks with the help of other schoolmates. This occasionally led to the formation of the group named Darlin’ in 1992 with Laurent Brancowitz. Homem-Christo and Bangalter played guitar and bass respectively, with Brancowitz playing drums.

Both the tracks were released by Stereolab on Duophonic Records and welcomed the band to begin giving stage shows in the UK. Daft Punk released its debut album, Homework, in 1994. The album received positive reviews. Its second album, Discovery, was released in 2001. The album was more successful than the debut and spawned club singles, ‘Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger’, ‘digital Love’, and ‘One More Time’. The duo released the album ‘Human After All’ in March 2005. This Daft Punk album’s singles ‘Technologic’ and ‘Robot Rock’ achieved great success in the UK. The duo toured throughout 2006 and 2007. Daft Punk live album Alive 2007 earned a Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronic album.

The score and soundtrack album of the film Tron: Legacy were composed by the duo in 2010. In early 2013, the duo left EMI Records to sign Sony Music Entertainment’s subsidiary Columbia. In 2013, the duo released their 4th album, Random Access Memories to worldwide critical acclaim. Its lead single ‘Get Lucky’ peaked to Top 10 in 32 different countries and became a global success. Random Access Memories earned the duo 5 Grammy Awards in 2014, including the Record of the Year for ‘Get lucky’ and ‘Album of the Year’. The duo is popular for using disguises while performing in public and for emphasizing using story and visual components associated with musical productions. They wear specific ornate helmets and gloves since 2001 to assume robot personas in most of their stage shows. Daft Punk rarely appears on TV.
